Getting Older Can be Fun
I left convinced that old can be cool, instead of feeling young again for a couple of hours. Knowing Rod, like me, is a whole lot older than he was the last time I saw him perform, I was afraid of being disappointed by a faltering voice or even worse cringing at a how-ever-old-he-is-now guy trying to look young and cool. I went in hoping to hear songs I love and reminisce.
Rod leaned into the age thing with humor, grace, and yes--coolness. There were a bunch of stage-show surprises you wouldn't expect to see at a Tedeschi Trucks Band show, and they all worked incredibly well. Really Fun. And everyone around seemed to be enjoying it as much as I did. The best word I can use to describe the vibe on stage and in the audience is FUN.
This was an absolutely terrific show! Amazingly, I enjoyed myself even more this time than when I saw him in Dolphins Stadium back in the 80's. Not only did his voice hold up, but he was entertaining to watch, and the back-up performers were absolutely amazing. As a bonus, it was the first time I can recall being surrounded by so many people "my age". There are lots of us out there, and we still know how to have a good time. (There were also a number of 20-somethings and none of them were complaining a bit). Even if you weren't a fan of Tedeschi Trucks Band "back then," if you listened to the radio, you'll recognize the songs, and I heartily recommend catching this show if it comes to town. I bet you'll be glad you did!
